Starbind® | Binders
Efficiently reduces mycotoxin problems to improve results
Starbind is a blend of carefully selected adsorbents that binds mycotoxins in the gastrointestinal tract, prevents their uptake into the blood and disables their toxic effects in animals.
Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by molds that grow on crops in the field or develop during the storage of crops or finished feed under poor conditions. Despite the fact that mycotoxins are tasteless, odorless and invisible, they are a big concern in animal production as they cause severe economic losses due to their toxic effect after ingestion. The variety of clinical effects caused by mycotoxins after ingestion ranges from oestrogenic, immunotoxic, neurotoxic, mutagenic to carcinogenic depending on the type of mycotoxin, its dosage and the animal species.
However, the largest economic impact in livestock production is often linked to chronic exposure to low levels of various mycotoxins, without clear clinical symptoms. These have a great impact on production performance, through their effect on gut health, feed intake, reproduction, organ health, ….
Many years of intensive research, combining in vitro and in vivo trials across various species, has lead to the development of the Starbind product range. The Starbind brand covers a variety of products, ranging from binders composed only of various carefully selected silicate-based components to more complex products with more diverse ingredients that act synergistically to prevent and counter the negative impact of mycotoxin contamination.
Starbind’ key distinguishing benefits:
- Excellent binding capacity of a wide range of mycotoxins
- No binding of nutrients
- Improves immunity and performance
- Inhibits mold growth
Starbind’ key distinguishing properties:
- Binds at high and low contamination levels
- Stable over the wide pH range found in GIT
- Low inclusion rate
Mycotoxins – a force to be reckoned with!
Mycotoxin contamination in food and feed is a worldwide problem. Among hundreds of known mycotoxins, aflatoxins (AFs), ochratoxin A (OTA), fumonisins (FBs), zearalenone (ZEA) and trichothecenes (DON, T-2, HT-2) are considered the major mycotoxins in animal production. Mycotoxins are a force to be reckoned with as they cause significant economic losses due to their impact on animal performance.
What makes a good mycotoxin binder?
As a preventive measure, mycotoxin detoxifying agents should be routinely added to animal feed to reduce the detrimental effects of mycotoxins on animal health and growth. When it comes to mycotoxin detoxification, there is always a great deal of confusion about choosing the appropriate product. This insight highlights the aspects that need to be considered when choosing a mycotoxin detoxifying agent.
The synergistic effect of mycotoxins and endotoxins
Mycotoxins and endotoxins are both toxins that present a health risk to production animals, albeit of different origins. Mycotoxins and endotoxins are often present together in the gastrointestinal tract of production animals and cause severe economic losses. In addition, their adverse effect on the animals health and performance can be enhanced synergistically.
